BYE BYE CANADA GOOSE - HELLO WULLY OUTERWEAR!

Every since adopting a plant based diet just over a year ago, I've also been trying to make shifts in my lifestyle that also align with my decision not to eat animals/use them as a commodity. A large part of that has been not only what I choose to put in my body, but also on it. The unfortunate reality is that the vast majority of cosmetic, clothing and accessories companies still use animal products and animal testing.

I try to be realistic about this process, in that it is definitely just that, a process. It simply isn't realistic to replace everything I've purchased over the past 28 years, all in one day - or even one year!  What has felt right for me is to do my best to make all new purchases animal friendly, take great care of the items that I already own (as to make them last), and replace the items that feel most compelling to me.

One item that was on the top of my "Must Replace List", was my Canada Goose parka. Before coming to understand the gruesome truth about Canada Goose coats (hello live plucking and trapping), I had owned my Canada Goose for about 5 years, and to be honest, it was amazing (performance wise)! We experience very long, cold winters here in Michigan, and a Canada Goose will keep you warm for certain, but at what cost? I knew there had to be a better alternative out there, one that could mean not jeopardizing my ethics for warmth.

Enter Wully Outerwear! My friend Ellyn actually introduced me to Wully, and after doing some research I found that their mission identically aligned with mine - to offer a cruelty free alternative to down filled parkas, without sacrificing warmth and quality. I knew this was a company I could get behind, and proudly sport during the long, cold Michigan winters.

I promptly took my CG coat to the cleaners, listed it on Tradsey, and within a few weeks had sold it for enough to cover the cost of my new Wully Outerwear Doe Parka! I immediately placed my order - so beyond ready to make the switch.

Unfortunately because Wully is still a small, independent retailer, I didn't get the instant gratification of having my coat right away. Fulfillment was a little bit of an issue, but Anthony, one of Wully's co-founders actually stepped in to assist me personally. I really appreciate the fact that he wanted to make things right! It took a little longer than expected, but I'm happy to say that I did receive my parka, and absolutely love it! The quality and care that went into making the coat is very evident, and I know it will be part of my wardrobe for many winters to come.

Coincidentally, a few days after receiving my parka, we had our first big snow storm in Detroit, so I was able to really put it to the test! While being significantly less bulk than my Canada Goose coat, it definitely didn't lack in warmth and insulation. Style, performance and compassion - what more could you want?!
