I recently spent a quick weekend in Orlando for a family wedding. I thought I'd share some cool spots I found during my trip and all the wedding festivities!

I'm such a sucker for Spanish moss. Swoon.
I stayed with family in the Thornton Park neighborhood of downtown Orlando. When visiting a new city, it's so nice to stay in a neighborhood that has fun spots in walking distance. Thornton Park is a really charming little neighborhood, centered on Lake Eola. The "lake" is more of a pond by Michigan standards (sorry, Floridians), but it's still a pretty place to explore. There is walking path around the entire lake, making it a great spot to get in your morning run (or stroll, if you are like me).

Lake Eola.

sweet little note found on my walk around the lake.
On the weekends, I'm told they typically they have farmer's market set up, but the weekend I was visiting there was a street fair going on.

I enjoyed just walking around and admiring all the sweet homes in the hood. I could definitely feel comfortable inhabiting this bad boy. Hello, porches and palms!!!

Keep reading for a few notable places worth visiting:

Nova is a farm to table restaurant on Orange Ave., just across the street from Lake Ivanhoe. They have a great outdoor porch where you can sit and take in the water view, along with a strawberry Frosé (or three).

Juice'd was my morning spot. I walked there to grab an acai bowl my first day in town, and wound up back for a green smoothie the next! It can be a challenge to keep up healthy eating habits when traveling, so I always try to ID a few options before a trip. Better to be prepared than hungry!

Activated Charcoal Water.

 Krunky Monkey Acai Bowl.

Kale Smoothie.
The Sanctum is a great plant based cafe, which tons of options for non-meat eaters like myself! Always happy to find great veg options when traveling, so I actually picked up lunch as well as something to bring with my on the flight home. Way better than airline food!

The Macro Bowl.

The Signature Caesar.
I can't forget my sweet Buggy girl when I'm traveling, so I swung by Woof Gang Bakery and grabbed her some of their home-made treats to take back with me. Mom guilt, it's so real.

we are big Beyonce fans in our house, and Bug is for sure Queen B.
Minnie?! I had to.

The wedding was at the Orlando Science Center - such a unique spot! The ceremony took place outside in front of lake and big mossy oak tree. It was pretty dreamy. I didn't take photos during the ceremony (it's a personal pet peeve of mine), but here is a sweet shot I stole from the bride (thanks, Alimah)!

The reception was on the rooftop deck of the science center, another beautiful spot! With a magical sunset and views of the Orlando skyline, it was a pretty unbeatable location.

my lovely cousins!

pretty city skyline in the background.

only full outfit shot I got - bad blogger. details below.
first dance - all the feels!

The reception was such a blast! An awesome DJ (that I harassed a little too much about playing Beyonce), life size Jenga, tequila shots...what more could you ask for?! Oh, you didn't have to ask - everyone's favorite, ok maybe my favorite (especially post-cocktails), a photo booth! The cousins may have had a little too much fun...

It was so refreshing to attend a wedding that just felt like a big party! Alimah and Matt did such an awesome job bringing all their friends and family together for a night that just felt so them.

attempt 1 with bride and groom.

more successful shot.

our crazy family - try getting this many people to look good at once, not an easy feat!

mission accomplished! sorta!

a live mariachi band ushered the bride and groom out of the reception - so fun!

always look up.
I had such a blast on my quick trip down to Florida! Any great spots I should check out when I have more time in town?

xx Kellie

  1. The team at this place obviously loves what they do, as they were beaming the whole time, danced with us till the end of the party, and briefly joined the after party after dropping off our belongings at the hotel! We had a blast at DC wedding venues and all our guests did as well.
